What is a Big Bang?A Big Bang is a fandom event in which writers create new fics, which are then passed on to artists who create art inspired by that fic. At the end, all the new content is posted simultaneously, creating an explosion of new fanworks for everyone to enjoy!
*WELL ACTUALLY, A BIG BANG NEEDS TO HAVE A MINIMUM WORDCOUNT OF AT LEAST-*That’s very nice, and we’re well aware of our fandom history, but we’re just here to have a good time. If you want to write a 50k longfic for Magi Big Bang, though, please be our guest!
Can I sign up as both a writer and an artist?Yes! You are more than welcome to sign up to both write and make art for the event. You cannot, however, select your own piece to make art for. Additionally, we request that people who wish to sign up as both a writer and an artist think hard about their schedule and commitments. Will you be able to do both of these tasks in a timely manner?
What ships are allowed?All ships involving canon characters from Magi: the Labyrinth of Magic and Sinbad no Bouken will be allowed, as are fics that are devoid of shippy elements! In addition, ship bashing and attacking fellow participants for ships they choose to include is not allowed, and such activities will result in banning from Magi Big Bang and future events run by the mod team.
What ratings of fic are allowed?Magi Big Bang will allow all ratings of fic. Be aware, however, that if your fic is a non-stop smut fest or filled with graphic violence, it may be more difficult to match you to an artist. Please have appropriate warnings ready when submitting your fic summary for the artists to choose from.
Are OCs allowed?Sometimes when writing fic, it is necessary to fill out the supporting cast with original characters that may not have existed in the original canon. We are fine with allowing this sort of canon-fluffing, but we request that fics focus on the cast and characters originating in Magi and the Sinbad prequel manga.
Why are you so adamant about using AO3 for posting?AO3’s open content policies ensure that everyone’s content can stay up for all to enjoy without fear of deletion. It also ensures that all the finished fics and art will be in an easy to find central location.
Sounds great! How do I sign up?You can sign up by filling out the signup sheet that will be open from Sunday, January 27th to Sunday, February 24th.
I missed the signup window! Can I still get involved?Sort of! While we will not be allowing any new fic writers or main artists to sign up after the signup period closes, you are more than welcome to participate by signing up as a beta reader or pinch hit artist!
What do I do if I need an extension?If you need more time to work on your piece, please contact a mod as soon as possible. We have built in about 4 days of extension into the schedule, but sadly we cannot guarantee more than that.
What do I do if I need to drop out of the event?Sometimes we can’t focus on fandom events because other things come up, and that’s perfectly fine! Please let the mods know sooner, rather than later, if you need to drop out of the event. That way we can shuffle around pairs and arrange pinch hits as needed.
