Writers

Writers must complete a fic of at least 10,000 words.
Fics are to be written in English, in order to maximize matchability with artists.
Fics must be new works created for Magi Big Bang. WIPs that have been started but have not had any part of them published before are eligible for use in Magi Big Bang.
Fics for Magi Big Bang should be complete enough to stand on their own. Writers are free to continue them after the event is over, but what is submitted for Magi Big Bang should be able to stand as a complete story on its own.
Completed fics will need to be submitted to the mods (but not posted) on the fic deadline via google drive, dropbox, or email, so that they can be passed on to the artists. If fics are completed before the deadline, we encourage you to pass your fic on sooner to give your artist more time to work.
Finished fics must be posted to the AO3 collection. If you do not have an AO3 account, please note that on your signup, and the mods will assist you in getting one.

Artists

Artists must complete at least one full color illustration or two linework-only illustrations relating to the fic they have been paired with. Illustrations must be done on clean, unlined paper. Artists may make more than the minimum amount of art, if they so choose.
Art submitted for Magi Big Bang must be an original work of the artist, produced for the event.
Artists will pick which fic they want to draw for based on summaries given by the authors. Choices will be made on a first-come, first-served basis.
Completed fics will be passed on to artists by mods as soon as they are received, no later than June 6th.
If the writer you were paired with drops from the event, you will be contacted by the mods to select another.
Artists will also be expected to post their pieces to the AO3 collection. If you do not have an AO3 account, please note that on your signup, and the mods will assist you in getting one. Additionally, AO3 images must be hosted externally. If you do not have stable external hosting, contact the mods, and they will assist you.

What is a Big Bang?
A Big Bang is a fandom event in which writers create new fics, which are then passed on to artists who create art inspired by that fic. At the end, all the new content is posted simultaneously, creating an explosion of new fanworks for everyone to enjoy!

That’s very nice, and we’re well aware of our fandom history, but we’re just here to have a good time. If you want to write a 50k longfic for Magi Big Bang, though, please be our guest!

Can I sign up as both a writer and an artist?
Yes! You are more than welcome to sign up to both write and make art for the event. You cannot, however, select your own piece to make art for. Additionally, we request that people who wish to sign up as both a writer and an artist think hard about their schedule and commitments. Will you be able to do both of these tasks in a timely manner?

What ships are allowed?
All ships involving canon characters from Magi: the Labyrinth of Magic and Sinbad no Bouken will be allowed, as are fics that are devoid of shippy elements! In addition, ship bashing and attacking fellow participants for ships they choose to include is not allowed, and such activities will result in banning from Magi Big Bang and future events run by the mod team.

What ratings of fic are allowed?
Magi Big Bang will allow all ratings of fic. Be aware, however, that if your fic is a non-stop smut fest or filled with graphic violence, it may be more difficult to match you to an artist. Please have appropriate warnings ready when submitting your fic summary for the artists to choose from.

Are OCs allowed?
Sometimes when writing fic, it is necessary to fill out the supporting cast with original characters that may not have existed in the original canon. We are fine with allowing this sort of canon-fluffing, but we request that fics focus on the cast and characters originating in Magi and the Sinbad prequel manga.

Why are you so adamant about using AO3 for posting?
AO3’s open content policies ensure that everyone’s content can stay up for all to enjoy without fear of deletion. It also ensures that all the finished fics and art will be in an easy to find central location.

Sounds great! How do I sign up?
You can sign up by filling out the signup sheet that will be open from Sunday, January 27th to Sunday, February 24th.

I missed the signup window! Can I still get involved?
Sort of! While we will not be allowing any new fic writers or main artists to sign up after the signup period closes, you are more than welcome to participate by signing up as a beta reader or pinch hit artist!

What do I do if I need an extension?
If you need more time to work on your piece, please contact a mod as soon as possible. We have built in about 4 days of extension into the schedule, but sadly we cannot guarantee more than that.

What do I do if I need to drop out of the event?
Sometimes we can’t focus on fandom events because other things come up, and that’s perfectly fine! Please let the mods know sooner, rather than later, if you need to drop out of the event. That way we can shuffle around pairs and arrange pinch hits as needed.

January 27 | Signups Open
Frolic! Rejoice! The event has begun, and the signup sheet will go live.

February 24 | Signups Close
After this date no new signups will be allowed. The beta/pinch hit signup sheet will go live and remain live until the end of the event.

March 10 | Fic Summaries Due
Writers will need to give a one-paragraph synopsis of their fic so that artists will be able to select who they draw for. If necessary, please include warnings for any of AO3’s major content warnings that apply to your fic.

March 17 | Artist Claims Due
Artists will select their top three choices by filling out a form provided by the mods. Selections are first-come, first-served.

April 7 | Check In #1
Mods will contact writers to make sure that all is going well and that fics are going well.

May 19 | Check in #2
Mods will contact writers to make sure that fics will be done on time. Artists will also be contacted at this time to make sure they are still on board to participate in the event.

June 2 | Fic Deadline
Finished fics must be turned in by this date.

June 23 | Art Check In
Mods will contact the artists to make sure that all is going well and that the artists will be able to complete on time.

July 7 | Art Deadline
Finished art must be turned in by this date.

July 11 | Posting!
The collection will open, and fics may be submitted! Art will be posted! And all shall bask in the explosion of creativity from our lovely fandom.
